Bill Neds Brook Falls, Stillwater, Nova Scotia

GPS : 45.22411, -62.03381

A short walk to a beautiful 25ft waterfall dropping at 90 degrees with an extended upper portion cascading into the drop for approx 15ft. The fall has a small but deep pool at its base. There is a gradual decline cascade portion stretched and turning for nearly 50ft of the river just above the falls and below it along the brook The upper portion is worth observing. You will find this waterfall just off Bill Ned Lake Road which is a logging road or by walking upstream from Waternish Road. Either way is a bushwhack as no trail has been established.

Important Information – This waterfall is located in Stillwater, NS which is just outside of Sherbrooke, NS. The trail is unmarked and uncarved so expect to bushwhack. From Bill Ned Lake Road you will walk 300ms one way and from Waternish Road you will walk 800ms one way. Keep in mind that Bill Ned Lake Road is a logging road so expect to drive on a bumpy unpaved roadway. If you choose to use Bill Ned Lake Road as your access point simply drive up it for 800ms and enter the woods on your left. At the 800m point find somewhere to park. Head into the woods on your left and walk 300ms in a straight line to the Brooks edge. You will be on top of the ravine and can use your best judgement on where to trek down to its bottom. If you choose to walk upstream from Waternish Road. Walk for 800ms and you will reach the falls. Depending on water levels I would choose to wear waterproof footwear.

Directions – This waterfall is located in Stillwater, NS in Guysborough County. If you are leaving from Halifax you can choose two main routes. Drive up the Eastern Shore on Highway 7 (Marine Drive) all the way to Sherbrooke. At this point you will turn left when you reach Sherbrooke which leads you on a continuation of Highway 7. Following until you reach the bridge that crosses over the river and starts Waternish Rd. Drive Waternish Rd until you reach Bill Ned Lake Rd and find somewhere to park if trekking upstream or turn onto Bill Ned Lake Road and drive for 800ms. Option two from Halifax is to head towards Truro on Highway 102 (Veteran’s Memorial Highway) until you reach the junction of Highway 104 (Trans Canada Highway). Turning right off Highway 102 at Exit 15E onto Highway 104 and driving until you reach Exit 26 near New Glasgow. Turning right at Exit 26 and following Highway 347 (Sherbrooke Rd) all the way to Glenelg Church Rd which eventually turns into Waternish Rd. Cross the river and turn left to travel along Waternish Rd to Bill Ned Lake Rd and park or turn right onto Bill Ned Lake Rd and drive for 800ms and park.
