This waterfall has been on my list of places to visit for a while. Glad I finally made it. It did not disappoint. Arriving just hours after a good rainfall it was flowing heavily. Standing at 60 feet and falling straight down it truly is a large plunge waterfall.

Important Information – This waterfall is located in Wagmatcook, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. It is a waterfall that you can swim at. The overall length is 10kms round trip and is not that challenging of a walk. I would rate it Medium. The trailhead which has signage begins near the parking lot of Wagmatcookewey School. The trail follows along an old road for the first 3kms. It is the grown over continuation of Humes Rear W Loop. During your hike along this old road you will cross two wooden bridges and come to a fork in the road. Turn right at this fork. After 3kms in total on this old road you will come to a human trafficked trailhead on your left with a bench adjacent to it. This is your turn. Follow this human trafficked trail for another 2kms. You will cross over First Branch Humes River and a brook before reaching the waterfall on Second Branch Humes River. These crossings can be tricky depending on the water levels. When you arrive at the waterfall there is a short 50 degree decline to reach edge of the pool at its base no longer than 10ms. The mist from the fall makes this area slippery so move with caution.
Directions – Located in Wagmatcook, Nova Scotia. This waterfall is in Victoria County which is in Cape Breton just before Baddeck. If you are leaving from Halifax you will want to head towards Truro on Highway 102 (Veteran’s Memorial Highway). Taking Exit 15W just passed Truro towards Cape Breton on Highway 104 (Trans Canada Highway). Continuing all the way to Cape Breton on this Highway crossing the Canso Causeway. Once in Cape Breton head towards Baddeck on Highway 105, this is the continuation of Trans Canada Highway. Before reaching Baddeck and Big Spruce Brewing you will encounter Wagmatcook. On your left you will start seeing Humes Rear W Loop signage. Drive passed these signs until you reach a sign that says only Humes Rear. Turn left and head up this road until you reach the school on your right. Park in the parking lot to your left at the end of the road. The trailhead is marked on your left if standing in the parking lot facing the school. It continues the Humes Rear road you just pulled off of to park.
