Horse Pasture Brook Falls, Wentworth Valley, Nova Scotia

Horse Pasture Brook offers 6-7 waterfalls all within 1 kilometre of each other. All very in size with the tallest being approx 20 feet. Each fall at different angles. It really is a unique place. The bonus of traveling along the trail to reach these falls is first stopping at Hart Lake Brook lower falls first.

Important Information – These falls are located along Horse Pasture Brook in Wentworth Valley area. The trail to reach these falls is just off Highway 4. It is an old logging/ATV trail. The trail is your second right beyond Lafarge Lane towards Ski Wentworth. You can park at the beginning of this trail just off the Highway or drive to a large open field and park at the far side of this field where the trail enters the woods once more. The falls are accessible from the main trail as the main trail goes parallel along the river just 50ms away. It is approx 600ms to reach Hart Lake Brook lower falls and another 1km to reach Horse Pasture Brook. The walking is easy but there are a few inclines. Now getting to each fall is a short walk to your left but certain parts are very steep. Don’t expect to reach the base of each fall. The side trails are largely unmarked and human trafficked or simply non-existent. Expect to walk on deadfall, roots, rocks, and dirt/mud. Once you reach the brook, you will want to cross the brook using the wooden bridge. Once across simply veer right then left to reconnect with the main trail. Following the main trail to the bottom fall and making your own way back up along the river’s edge or simply using the main trail as a marker and entering the woods towards the river to view each fall as you make your way down. None of the locations offer a deep enough pool to swim or jump.

Directions – The falls are located in Wentworth Valley area just beyond Folly Mountain. If you are leaving Halifax, you will want to get on Highway 102 (Veteran’s Memorial Highway) towards Truro. Once you reach Truro, you will take the offramp towards New Brunswick onto Highway 104 (Trans Canada Highway). Driving until Exit 11. Taking Exit 11 and turning left onto Highway 4. Driving Highway 4 passed Folly Lake. You will pass Folly Lake and Lafarge Lane. After Lafarge Lane, you will be taking your second right off Highway 4. This turn is unmarked but your first choice is gated. Take the old logging/ATV trail option after this gated option. Drive the trail to an open field and park on the far side of the field where the trail goes back into the woods. Follow the trail all the way to Hart Lake Brook, on your right will the lower falls 100ms upstream. Continue walking the main trail which veers left and uphill across the brook. Following the main trail to Horse Pasture Brook. Cross the brook using the bridge and decide to venture to the bottom using the main trail and work your way back up or work your way down off the main trail along the edge of the ravine.
