Beulach Ban Falls, North Aspy River South Branch, Nova Scotia

The formerly known as ‘Horsetail Falls’ located along the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton between Pleasant Bay and Cape North. The falls are large in size and very easy to reach. They are approx. 70 feet in height in total. With an approx 30 ft straight drop to a steep cascaded slope of about 75 degrees for about approx. 40 ft.

Important Information – These falls are very easy to reach as you’ll be walking on gravel the entire way and it is relatively flat. They do not offer anywhere to swim or jump. The trail to reach the falls is approx 2kms in length and it starts in a general parking lot with facilities available. Being located within Cape Breton Highlands National Park you’ll see signage near the falls along the Cabot Trail and within the park itself.

Directions – If you are traveling from Halifax you will head towards Truro on Highway 102(Veterans Memorial Highway). Once reaching Truro you will drive past Truro to exit 15W towards Cape Breton on Highway 104(Trans-Canada Highway). Following until you reach the Canso Causeway. Once you cross the Canso Causeway into Cape Breton you will drive past the roundabout on your left and turn left onto Highway 105(Trans-Canada Highway) heading towards Baddeck/Sydney/Cheticamp. This Highway will bring you to a fork in the road. At this location Highway, 105 will continue right and the Cabot Trail will start on your Left. Turn left onto the Cabot Trail, following the Cabot Trail passed Pleasant Bay. You will be entering the Aspy Fault region of the trail and about halfway to Cape North, you will see signage for the falls on your right-hand side. The signage is crisp and clear, hard to miss. Drive this short park road to its parking lot and begin your walk back to the falls past the gated access continuation of the park road.
