Myles Doyle Falls, Melford, Nova Scotia

GPS : 45.864583, -61.27378

Three times they drop within just feet of one another. The top fall is approx. 5-10 clear drop into a small pool, deep enough to submerge yourself. This pool feeds the biggest fall at approx. 10-15 feet straight drop into a 20-foot steep cascade fall to the bottom pool. This pool is shallow and continues the river downstream.

Important Information – These falls are located on a gravel/dirt road directly off Highway 105 (Trans-Canada Highway) in Cape Breton. They do not offer you a place to jump but the pool at the bottom of the top fall allows you to cool off. This pool is small but deep enough. This is one of the shortest walks I’ve visited such a great location. The walk is approx. 50ms from where you park on a human trafficked path with a small decline down to the base of the falls. This trailhead is easily identifiable and also had flagging tape when I visited. Expect to walk on exposed tree roots, dirt/gravel, and a worn-down wooden staircase. The trail will be on your right-hand side of the road approx 1km up River Denys Mtn. Rd. the second option when traveling from Port Hastings/Canso Causeway. Remember it is the second option to turn on River Denys Mtn. Rd. not the first option. The second option is a few km’s past the first option just before exit 3 on the left-hand side.

Directions – If you are traveling from Halifax area you will want to jump on Highway 102 (Veterans Memorial Highway) towards Truro. Passing Truro and reaching exit 15W towards Cape Breton on Highway 104 (Trans-Canada Highway). Following Highway 104 (Trans-Canada Highway) all the way to the Canso Causeway. Upon crossing this bridge into Cape Breton you will proceed past the roundabout and veer left onto Highway 105 (Trans-Canada Highway) that has signage saying Cheticamp/Baddeck/Sydney left lane. Following Highway 105 (Trans-Canada Highway) to Melford which is approx. 30kms up this highway when reaching your destination on your left.
