Findlay Falls, South Branch, Nova Scotia

GPS : 45.161083, -63.052917

Findlay Falls has multiple drops with the largest drop being approx 30 ft. Approx a 15 footer is directly on top of the 30 ft drop making it appear to be nearly 50 ft high at a quick glance. Just upstream you will encounter 2 more 5 ft cascade like falls about 30 ft from the top of the main fall area. The falls quickly appear as you are walking the trail and have a big but shallow pool at their base before the river continues onward.

Important Information – At the base of the main fall area you could easily submerge yourself but I would not suggest jumping into this pool. The trail to gain access to this area is relatively flat during your walk. The walk itself is just shy of 2kms from where you park your car. The path starts off on a gravel path and remains as such just with overgrown grasses until you reach the river crossing. At this point, you will want to cross the river as the falls are there on your left. If you wish to travel to the top of the main falls or to see the 2 smaller falls upstream. The trail to do so is on the left-hand side of the main falls and is rather step until it plateaus at max elevation. This is a trail of exposed roots, rocks, dirt/mud, and gravel. Easily identifiable. The main trail is directly off of the main road which is Meadowvale Rd. The trail is on the right-hand side if coming from Halifax or Truro area. The trail is approx 500ms up Meadowvale Rd from the sharp left turn in the road. You will pass a house on your right before you reach the trail. This trail is marked with a no trespassing sign hanging on a wire gate. Use it at your own risk. A picture of this entrance is included above. Once you park, you will walk on this main trail until it turns right. Take this right and follow this trail until its end. There are options to turn off the main trail here, do not take them.

Directions – These falls are located in South Branch which is located in between middle and upper Stewiacke. If traveling from Halifax you will want to head towards Truro on Highway 102 (Veterans Memorial Highway) until exit 11. Exit 11 is for Stewiacke. Turning right off the off-ramp and following it straight until its end. This road has some gravel areas. It starts as Main st then goes to Kitchener St then turns into Stewiacke Rd. At the end of Stewiacke Rd, you will turn right onto Meadowvale Rd. A sharp left turn will appear and the falls are less than 1 km away.
