These falls are one of the more picturesque falls in Nova Scotia. It is tall and wide, has multiple drops and there’s a tunneled cave at the top. The falls fall approx 50 feet and at a variety of angles. There was a small pool at the base present when I visited.
Important Information – These falls do not allow you to jump or swim. The trail is approx 400ms in length. The cave located at the top of the waterfalls is best to go through from the other side, finishing on top of the falls. To do so, you will climb up to the top of the hill on the left-hand side of falls. There is a human trafficked trail all the way up, consisting mostly of dirt and tree roots. Once at the top you come to a set of train tracks, go to your right when you arrive. The trail going back down the hill is on the other side of the tracks, it is not marked so keep an eye out. It is approx within 20ms from where you turn onto the tracks. This small trail will lead you downhill on the same terrain as what you climbed up the hill on. The tunneled cave opening will be just around a small bend to your left, its hard to miss. Walking through this cave is dark and slippery so do so at your own risk. The tunneled cave will bring you on top of the falls. There is a small trail to the right-hand side where you can climb back down the hill to the base of the falls. To reach this falls and cave you have a very short walk from the main road. You will park on the side of the road (Highway 4). The trail is an old logging road that has a combination of dirt, grass, and gravel. It is blocked by a few larger boulders to prevent vehicle entrance. The trail is straight forward. Stay on the same trail the entire way in. It is approx a 300m walk to the falls. The trail is flat the whole to the base of the falls. If you decide to climb up to the top of the falls or up to the train tracks the trail becomes steep and very steep in sections.
Directions – These falls are located in Wentworth Valley. If you are leaving from Halifax you will head towards Truro on Highway 102 (Veterans Memorial Highway). Upon reaching Truro you will continue on Highway 102 towards New Brunswick. After taking the left hand round turn at the end of Highway 102 onto Highway 104 (Trans Canada Highway) you will be looking for exit 11 which is Folly Lake and Wentworth on the sign. This exit brings you to Highway 4. Turning right onto Highway 4, follow this highway until you reach the area where you need to pull onto the shoulder of the road and park. This Area will be after Folly Lake and before Ski Wentworth on your left-hand side of the road. You will see a sign on the side of the Highway saying Wentworth Valley on your right. The trailhead is across from this sign on the other side of the road. This sign finishes off a large clear field section along the Highway.
