Egypt Falls, Upper Margaree, Nova Scotia

GPS : 46.193114, -61.125693

This is a set of 2 falls stacked pretty much on top of each other. These falls are the widest falls I have been to. Upwards to 60 feet wide. The fall at the top falls approx 15-20 feet at an angle of approx 85 degrees and the bottom one falls approx 15-20 feet at an angle of approx 85 degrees. Each fall has a pool at its base but the top falls pool is the deepest. If you decide to climb up to the top falls pool, do so at your own risk. It is worth it. These falls were very impressive.

Important Information – At these falls you cannot jump due to both pools not being more than 6 feet deep. The bottom pool, depending on when you decide to visit is normally only 4-5 feet deep on the left-hand side of the falls. You can swim in either pool but do so at your own risk. The pool at the base of the top fall is challenging to get to but it’s worth it. The hike to get down to these falls is not long but it is challenging, especially at the end. Try not to think about walking back up when you’re walking down. The trail down is a human trafficked carved out vegetation path, mostly dirt and loose rocks. It is approx 1km down the hill. The start is the easiest as it continues at a decline of 45 degrees. The last 100ms is the tricky part. The rope is tied to the bases of trees to assist you. Use the rope. The decline in this section can get as high as almost 70 degrees. Be careful. The trail is very straight forward, you will see a trailhead within the tree line on the right-hand side of the road. Park before or after this trailhead. You will see some flagging tape at the trailhead on the right-hand side of the trail opening and along the way down the trail has some markers along the way tied to branches. Just continue straight down the hill. As soon as you reach the last 100ms you can turn right to bring you to the base of the bottom fall or you can turn left which will bring you to the top of the top fall. If you desire to go to the middle of the 2 falls or into the pool at the base of the top fall do so on the right-hand side of the falls from the base of the bottom fall. This is not a marked way up and no rope is provided, so do so at your own risk. The trailhead is located off a gravel road called Pipers Glen Rd. This road is marked with a sign at the intersection of Egypt rd and Pipers Glen Rd. It should be on the left-hand side of Pipers Glen Rd. You will drive up this road a short distance, make sure to travel up the hill until it levels out before you find parking. The Civic address given is 115 Pipers Glen Rd, the trailhead will be just passed this location on your right.
