Halls Harbour Waterfall, Halls Harbour, Nova Scotia

GPS : 45.200183, -64.609286

This waterfall is a single fall easiest to see and visit during low tide along the Bay of Fundy. The fall itself falls straight down at a 90-degree angle onto a basaltic boulder at its base. Even with the low about of volume flowing when I visited, the water falling onto the boulder was a nice sight. The fall is approx 25-30 feet high. Surrounding the area of the fall is a sandstone beach exposed during low tide, great for exploring. The area has been known to offer Amethyst, which is always a good find. Some other little exposures during high tide are present like caves carved into the rock face.

Important Information – This fall is located along the Bay of Fundy so access it at your own risk. The tide moves very fast. These falls do not offer the chance to swim or jump into any pool at the base of the falls. Walking the short distance from where you park to the waterfall will test your ankles as you are required to walk on sandstones of all shapes. Take your time. The trail to get down to the exposed beach area is less than 100ms down a gradual decline. The exposed beach area required to travel over to reach the falls is approx 800ms. Look around at your surroundings as with the constant movement of the high tides and exposure to weathering and erosion the rock face is fragile in spots.

Directions – The trailhead is off of Cove Rd just around the right-hand bend in the road on your left-hand side approx 100ms down the road after the right-hand bend. Cove Rd is off of Highway 359 which starts off as Highway 341 when coming from Kentville. If leaving from Halifax, you will head towards the valley on Highway 101 (Harvest Highway). Take Exit 13 and turn right at the top of the off-ramp onto Chester Ave (trunk 12). Following Chester Ave, until you reach Main st (trunk 1) and turn left. Once on Main st turn right onto highway 341 (Aldershot Rd) which turns into Highway 359. Follow this Highway all the way to Halls Harbour. Cove Rd will be on your right.
